Besides answering our clients’ needs, Lixo’s data science team puts time and ressources aside to investigate the latest breakthroughs in R&D. To fuel their reflections and ideas, they have created the Lixo Journal Club, a taskforce dedicated to gathering intelligence on the latest and most relevant academic papers on machine learning, computer vision and waste management technology.
What is the Lixo Journal Club?
The concept is very simple! Once every two weeks, a team member presents a recently published paper that they deem useful for the team. It can be related to various subjects: active learning, semantic segmentation, semi-supervised learning, transformers, etc. as long as it helps the team broaden its perspectives in order to maintain its innovation abilities.
What has it achieved so far?
Since its creation, the Journal Club has extensively review over 20 research papers, underlying their strengths and limitations, thus creating a robust and up to date repository of knowledge.
Why does it matter?
The work generated by this taskforce has led to the accumulation of a critical amount of knowledge, but none of it would have existed if it wasn’t for the free availability of academic resources.
So Lixo has decided to return the favor and share this knowledge publicly, in order to benefit the greatest number of data scientists possible within the circular economy sector.
We will therefore frequently publish blog posts on the discoveries made in our Journal Club presentations, following a clear structure :
- general context of the paper
- why we chose it
- what it brings to the field
- potential limitations
We’ll publish in English and in French to cast the widest net possible.
